On July 22, 2025, felony-indicted Fort Bend County Judge KP George faced off once
again with a resolute community of residents during the Commissioner Court’s
regular session. The main issue at hand was voters’ concerns surrounding an
alleged mid-Census attempt to redistrict Fort Bend County’s voting maps illegally.
Typically, precinct maps are redrawn every ten years following the U.S. Census. This
process, known as “redistricting,” seeks to ensure that districts have roughly equal
populations to reflect population changes and maintain fair representation. The last
time Fort Bend County reviewed its voter precincts occurred during its redistricting
process in 2021. The County’s next regularly scheduled redistricting, following the
U.S. Census, is planned for 2031.
However, due to a directive from the Trump Administration urging state leaders to
redistrict, discussions are currently underway to potentially redraw Fort Bend
County’s voting maps. The main goal appears to be helping Republicans strengthen
their slim majority in the U.S. House ahead of the upcoming midterm elections. The
potential impact of this redistricting on the forthcoming elections is significant, as it
could potentially shift the balance of power in the House. This adds urgency to the
matter and raises concerns for many residents. Controversial discussions are taking
place between Republicans and Democrats regarding these changes, with
unfounded concerns being raised about certain voter precincts allegedly violating
state laws. The Administration is concerned about losing its narrow majority in
2026, which has led to implications of GOP cheating and manipulating the law.
Voters are disgusted.
Fort Bend County resident, Sarah Roberts, who KP George ordered to be removed
from the July 8th meeting because she boldly stated facts that bruised George’s
tender ego, said, “It’s clear our Republican commissioners are not only complicit in
wanting to silence votes, but also selling their souls for their beloved Trump.”
The meeting was overshadowed by intense disagreements among the
commissioners. The most severe attacks, however, were directed at twice-elected
County Attorney Bridgette Smith-Lawson. KP George launched sexist insults, while
others made false accusations of partisanship and unfounded claims of collusion
between Precinct 4 Commissioner Dexter McCoy and Attorney Smith-Lawson.
Additionally, there were alarming attempts by GOP officials to undermine Smith-
Lawson’s established and exclusive authority, highlighting the chaotic atmosphere
surrounding Republican power struggles.
Attorney Marquette Greene-Scott, who is challenging Representative Troy Nehls in
Congressional District 22, issued the following statement: “Absolute power corrupts
absolutely, and we’re witnessing this truth unfold at every level of government. From
the tyrannical president forcing Texas redistricting to local officials abandoning
established procedures, the erosion of checks and balances threatens our
democratic institutions.”
Green-Scott expressed special concern when KP George disqualified Smith-
Lawson’s defense of her staff, which includes both Republican and Democratic
voters, and their superb work ethic, by citing facts and quoting legal precedent.
George disrespected her defense as “emotional.”
Sexist much?
Greene-Scott responded to KP George’s sexist and illogical insults by saying, “This
gendered attack on a woman defending her credentials and authority has no place in
professional governance. Judge George did not demonstrate compliance with Texas
Government Code Section 45.179, which clearly outlines the authority of county
attorneys.”
Commissioner Grady Prestage also defended Smith-Lawson. He rightfully
challenged GOP insults and overreach, and single-handedly shut down George’s
sexist rants by demanding prior examples of similar actions taken against the
County Attorney’s office. George could provide none.
According to community activist Chris Pino, “This new majority is so expensive. You
can’t call yourself fiscally responsible or ‘the taxpayer’s best friend’ if you’re voting to
spend millions of taxpayer dollars on needless redistricting, cushy law firms, and
political kickbacks.
Cut the BS and do your doggone job!”
